Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) represents a holistic approach that aims not only to empower women and girls, but also to ensure that all individuals have equal rights and access to opportunities. In line with this objective, higher education institutions have the capacity to drive transformative change in areas such as access to education, academic representation, participation in leadership roles, and the development of gender-sensitive
policies. At Istanbul Kültür University, we are committed to transforming this capacity into an institutional responsibility, by making gender equality a fundamental component of all our academic, administrative, and societal processes.

Our institutional will in this area is embodied through systematic data collection, policy development, and impact analysis aligned with each of the metrics evaluated under the THE Impact Rankings. Our multidimensional approach to SDG 5 includes addressing the structural causes of gender-based inequalities, supporting first-generation female students, promoting the representation of women in senior academic positions, and raising societal awareness through outreach and research. By integrating gender equality into the core of our institutional strategy, Istanbul Kültür University not only contributes to SDG 5, but also aspires to play an active role in building a sustainable, fair, and inclusive future.

“There can be no sustainable development in a world where women are not empowered.”
